Work Alongside the CEO Developing new projects for the organization

Life at Data Wow

*Hello, my name is Pimmuk Sintharatna. I’m a fourth-year student at the Faculty of Commerce and Accountancy, majoring in Information Technology in Business under the Department of Statistics at Chulalongkorn University. Currently, I am working as an intern as a management associate. I chose this internship because it offers the opportunity to gain experience in a variety of tasks and get hands-on experience. I believe this role will greatly contribute to my personal and professional development. *

Why did you choose to intern here in this position?

I first came across a post from the "Life at Data Wow" Facebook page announcing an opening for an internship position. Curious, I decided to explore their page further, and I was genuinely impressed with the content they shared. What stood out to me the most were the photos and videos that showcased the company’s working environment, which appeared to be open, friendly, and welcoming. Additionally, I noticed posts highlighting their work processes and various activities organized for employees, which seemed both interesting and fun. All of this made me feel excited and eager to apply for an internship at Data Wow

What did you get to do?

In this internship, I was assigned to design a workshop and prepare a presentation on the topic "Applying AI in Daily Life" for P’Ton Jesdakorn Samittiauttakorn, the CEO of Data Wow, to use in his talk. I began by researching information related to the benefits and precautions of using AI, with P’Ton providing valuable guidance on interesting topics. These included how AI can be used in presentations, personal development with AI, and how AI is applied across various industries. I also reached out to a friend studying dentistry to learn about how AI is currently being used in their field and the challenges encountered in their learning and teaching experiences.

After gathering the initial information, I analyzed and adjusted the content according to the direction P’Ton suggested, which helped me define a clearer scope for the presentation.

For the workshop, I designed activities that allowed participants to experience using AI firsthand. They were encouraged to try out 4-5 different AI tools, compare their advantages and disadvantages, and decide which one they would prefer to use and why. I aimed to make this activity simple yet practical for real-world applications. P’Ton also contributed additional ideas to facilitate more in-depth analysis and group discussions, which made the workshop more engaging and effective.

As for the presentation, I structured the content to make the introduction of AI in daily life both captivating and relatable, incorporating humor that I believed the audience would enjoy to keep them entertained and attentive. Additionally, I collaborated with the graphic design team to ensure the layout and content were visually appealing and aligned with the overall message.

Apart from this project, I also had the chance to learn about the company's Recommendation System and Data Pipeline at Yay! I applied this knowledge to design and develop a prototype workshop that focused on teaching data techniques through interactive games.

What do you like about the work?

What I truly enjoyed about this internship was the freedom to express my ideas and opinions, whether it was in designing the workshop or planning activities. I had the opportunity to share my thoughts openly with the team, and we engaged in discussions to find the most suitable approach. I particularly appreciated being able to introduce content like AI-generated jokes and visual elements, as well as topics around the legal uncertainties and copyright issues related to AI-generated images. All of my suggestions were not only accepted but also incorporated into the final output.

In terms of creating the presentation, I loved being able to craft my own storytelling and had the creative liberty to infuse humor that I believed would resonate with the audience. The team was very receptive to my ideas and implemented them effectively. Additionally, I was involved in refining a new product related to data techniques. I proposed shifting the format from a traditional, technical-focused delivery to a more engaging and enjoyable approach, aiming to reduce boredom and make the content easier to understand. I also suggested ways to simplify the product's complexity and tweak certain details to enhance usability.

Another aspect I appreciated was the structured workflow. From the outset, there were clear objectives, defined scopes, and specific deadlines, making the work process well-organized. We established the target audience, the knowledge we aimed to convey, and the key points to include, which greatly simplified the preparation of the content and the presentation. Moreover, there was continuous collaboration and exchange of ideas at every step, whether it was during research, organizing content, or creating the presentation. This collaborative environment greatly contributed to delivering high-quality work.

What did you get from working here?

I gained a wide range of experiences from my internship here. One of the most valuable lessons was learning to think and make decisions independently on various tasks. I also had the chance to explore and work with AI technologies I had never encountered before. For instance, I learned about AI applications in dentistry that help students interpret dental X-ray films, "Nong Saijai," a Thai-developed AI chatbot providing mental health advice and assessments, and Plus Docs, which assists in creating slides or presentations. Besides these, I experimented with other AI tools beyond those I was already familiar with, such as ChatGPT and Gemini, by using Perplexity, Copy.ai, Mistral AI, and Claude, which expanded my understanding of AI capabilities.

Working on a presentation in a storytelling format was another significant experience. This was the first time I created an entire presentation by myself. In the past, I had worked on presentations with friends, but the content was usually pre-prepared, and my role was mainly to organize it to fit the narrative. This time, however, I had to develop the content from scratch, which was a much larger undertaking and required a broader set of skills.

Additionally, I learned how to collaborate with a team of people I had just met. Working with new colleagues required me to adapt and learn different working styles compared to my experiences with group projects at university, where I often worked with familiar faces and used familiar methods. In this internship, everyone was responsible for their own tasks, and we regularly updated each other, sharing feedback and ideas. This style of working helped me adapt quickly and significantly improved my teamwork skills.

What do you like about the company?

What I really appreciate about Data Wow is the flexibility it offers in terms of working arrangements. I have the freedom to choose whether to work from home or come into the office on any given day, allowing me to manage my time more effectively and align my schedule with my personal needs. Additionally, I love that I can choose my own workspace; there are various spots to settle into, from different work areas to relaxation spaces, such as nap rooms or gaming corners.

Another aspect I enjoyed was the in-office massage service, which provided a great way to relax during work hours. The availability of snacks and drinks throughout the day added to the overall comfort and made the work environment feel more relaxed and enjoyable. It definitely helped me recharge and return to work with renewed energy, boosting my productivity significantly.

What do you want to say to future interns here?

For future interns, my advice is to take advantage of the opportunity to intern for as long as possible if your schedule allows. A longer internship will give you the chance to gain a more comprehensive understanding of different aspects of the job and gather valuable experience. If you dedicate your time and effort fully, you'll gain a tremendous amount from this internship experience. Don’t hesitate to ask questions or seek guidance from the team, as everyone here is always willing to help and share their knowledge. And most importantly, I highly recommend trying out the company's massage service – you’ll definitely love it! It's incredibly relaxing and makes a huge difference in helping you unwind during work hours.
